Antonio (Tony) Donatelle is an Armenian trumpet player now based in the USA. He began his musical journey at the age of seven, studying classical trumpet at the A. Spendarian Music School in Yerevan, Armenia, under the guidance of the esteemed Mister David Onipchenko. Over the course of his ten years at the school, Tony earned recognition as one of Armenia’s most promising young trumpeters, receiving awards at several prestigious international competitions and festivals. Notable accolades include the “Otar Taktakishvili” competition in Tbilisi, Georgia, the “Voronezh Brass Assembly" after V. M. Khalilova” in Voronezh, Russia, and the “Art Music” International Contest Festival of Arts in Yerevan, Armenia, among others. His success also led to an invitation to study at the “YerazArt” Academy in Yerevan, a major milestone in his development as a musician.
In addition to his studies, Tony gained valuable experience working with the Armenian Public Radio and the National Song Theater Orchestras, where he had the opportunity to perform across a wide range of musical genres in some of Armenia’s most prestigious concert halls. These experiences allowed him to hone his versatility as a performer, playing everything from classical to contemporary works. At the age of 17, Tony's exceptional talent earned him a spot at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he graduated with a degree in trumpet performance to then move to New York City and conitnue his studies at the Tribeca Jazz Institute. In Berklee Tony had the privilege to study under renowned musicians such as Steve Davis, Jason Palmer, Billy Kilson. Mark Walker, Marquis Hill, and many others.
His journey from Armenia to the U.S. is a testament to his dedication, and he continues to build on his impressive foundation, further developing his skills and expanding his musical horizons.
